I am a relationship specialist and my practice has been exclusively with couples since 2014; that's important.
Couple therapy is inherently different from other types of therapy. Effective couple therapy keeps the focus on the client-couple’s relationship patterns which takes skill to consistently follow and maintain. Although couple therapy is sometimes characterized as the most difficult form of therapy, I love what I do. I like to believe that enjoyment is evident in my work and in my clients' experiences.
My primary orientation with couples is Collaborative Couple Therapy. Over the years I've also dove deeply into Existential Psychotherapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Buddhist Psychology. I earned my Master of Social Work Degree in 1992 and, after several years working in community mental health care, started a private family therapy practice in 1998.
In 2011, after training with Les Greenberg (originator of Emotion Focused Therapy), I was motivated to sharpen my skills with couples. Then in 2013 I met my mentor, the originator of Collaborative Couple Therapy, Dan Wile. Over the following six years I traveled regularly to Oakland, California for ongoing training with Dan, until his death in 2020. I pledge to bring that same dedication to supporting your relationship.
